Join us for the 2nd Annual Australia Day Celebration - Make & Play a Hard-Wood Didgeridoo Weekend Workshop, January 24 & 25, 2009.
The Didgeridoo is a native Australian wind instrument that can be used to create music through controlled breath patterning, called circular breathing. This workshop is designed for anyone interested in learning how to make and play their own hard-wood didgeridoo.
In the two-day intensive workshop, each participant begins by learning the fundamentals of playing didgeridoo, including making the drone, vocalizations, and basic rhythms. Then, in the wood-shop, we pick and choose the wood we will be crafting. With emphasis on safety, we introduce each of the power tools, primarily King Arthur’s Tools ®, which we work with to create our instruments. Activities include personal instruction on carving, shaping, finish sanding, the tuning or pitching of our instruments, and of course, a didg-jam for the grand musical finale. Materials, including practice didges, are supplied by the instructor and each participant gets to play and bring home their own unique hard-wood didgeridoo.
